Analysis:

A family story doesn’t always need a complex plot. Just showing family relationships and emotions can make a movie complete. Family Star is a straightforward movie. Vijay Deverakonda and Dil Raju agreed to be part of the film because they trusted Parasuram, who directed Geetha Govindam. Vijay plays a responsible young man looking after his family, while Mrunal plays a character who manipulates her family for her own gain. Vijay Deverakonda’s portrayal of a middle-class guy is impressive with his gestures and attire fitting the role well. The character Govardhan is well-crafted, but the entire film doesn’t revolve around him. The emotional depth is lacking in Family Star. The interval scene is intriguing, but the conflict between Vardhan and Indu seems unrealistic.

The flashback of Vardhan’s alcoholic brother wasn’t captivating enough. The director could have worked more on these parts. Parasuram, known for writing emotional stories, missed delivering strong emotions in Family Star. The second half of the film feels dull and lacks emotion. The first half has some good moments, and the chemistry between the lead actors shines at times. The second half feels like a TV serial. When the conflict isn’t strong, the second half of any movie tends to be dull and uninteresting. Mrunal’s role isn’t significant in the second half.

The action scenes are well choreographed, but the reasons for the fights aren’t compelling. The final conversation between Jagapathi Babu and Vijay Deverakonda feels dragged out by an extra 20 minutes. The climax fight lacks impact. The song ‘Kalyani Vacha Vacha’ plays during the end credits. The climax of Family Star feels lackluster.

Performances:

Vijay Devarakonda did a great job playing Govardhan in Family Star. He looked like a genuine family man on screen. Mrunal Thakur is lovely, but her role didn’t have much impact. Sometimes, she seemed older than Vijay in some scenes. Her character didn’t matter much in the second half of the movie. Jagapathi Babu played a wealthy father, but his role was quite ordinary, something he has done before. Vennela Kishore and Rohini didn’t have significant roles. The rest of the cast had limited parts.

When writers turn into directors, the script usually turns out great with an engaging storyline. The conflicts in the story should be powerful. Unfortunately, Parasuram didn’t succeed with Family Star. The dialogues are decent at times. The visuals are impressive, making the film look lavish in every scene. However, the songs didn’t leave a mark. Gopi Sundar didn’t do well with the music. Family Star falls short in many aspects.
